Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
