The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
