Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
