The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Pharaoh said: 'What! Do you believe before you have my permission? Surely this is a plot you have contrived to drive out the rulers from the capital. So you shall see, 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
