Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
