The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say: "O you (Muhammad SAW) to whom the Dhikr (the Quran) has been sent down! Verily, you are a mad man. 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
