Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
