Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 no caring friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
