The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and continuous shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
