Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
We sent Noah to his People (with the Command): "Do thou warn thy People before there comes to them a grievous Penalty." 1 [Noah] said, "My people! I am but a plain warner to you, 2 Worship Allah, fear Him, and obey me. 3 "So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew." 4 He said: "O my Lord! I have called to my People night and day: 5 but my calling has only increased them in flight. 6 And whenever I called them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, and wrapped them in their garments, and persisted, and waxed very proud. 7 Then I invited them publicly. 8 and preached to them in public, and also addressed them in secret. 9 "Ask for forgiveness of your Lord," I said. "Surely, He is the Forgiver. 10 He will let loose the sky for you in plenteous rain, 11 And help you with wealth and sons, and make for you gardens, and make for you rivers. 12 What is the matter with you that you fear not the greatness of Allah? 13 And surely He hath created you by stages. 14 Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers 15 and has set up within them the moon as a light [reflected] and set up the sun as a [radiant] lamp? 16 God made you grow from the earth. 17 And thereafter He will cause you to return thereinto, and He will bring you forth a forthbringing. 18 how God has spread the earth out for you 19 That you may go along therein in wide paths. 20
