He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
