They are waiting for nothing except a single Cry, after which there will be no second Cry. 15 And they said, “Our Lord! Give us our share quickly, before the Day of Reckoning.” 16 Bear with their words patiently. Remember Our servant David, a man of strength who always turned to Us: 17 It was We that made the hills declare, in unison with him, Our Praises, at eventide and at break of day, 18 and the birds, duly mustered, every one to him reverting; 19 We strengthened his kingdom, giving him wisdom and the power of sound Judgment. 20 ۞ And hath the story of the litigants come unto thee? How they climbed the wall into the royal chamber; 21 When they entered the presence of David, and he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not: we are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: Decide now between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, but guide us to the even Path.. 22 “This is my brother; he has ninety nine ewes and I have one ewe; and he now says ‘Give that one also to me’ – and he is very demanding in speech.” 23 Said he, 'Assuredly he has wronged thee in asking for thy ewe in addition to his sheep; and indeed many intermixers do injury one against the other, save those who believe, and do deeds of righteousness -- and how few they are!' And David thought that We had only tried him; therefore he sought forgiveness of his Lord, and he fell down, bowing, and he repented. ۩ 24 So, We forgave him that, and he has a near place with Us and a fine return. 25 [And We said:] "O David! Behold, We have made thee a [prophet and thus, Our] vicegerent on earth: judge, then, between men with justice, and do not follow vain desire, lest it lead thee astray from the path of God: verily, for those who go astray from the path of God there is suffering severe in store for having forgotten the Day of Reckoning!" 26
