The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and he belied the finest 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
