The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virginal, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
