The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 and when thou seest [anything that is] there thou wilt see [only] bliss and a realm transcendent 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
