He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
