۞ He it is who created you from a single soul, and He created therefrom his spouse that he might find repose in her. Then when he covereth her she beareth a light burthen and fareth about therewith; then when she groweth heavy the twain call upon Allah their Lord: if Thou vouchsafest us a goodly child, we shall surely be of the thankful. 189 But when He gave unto them aright, they ascribed unto Him partners in respect of that which He had given them. High is He Exalted above all that they associate (with Him). 190 Associate they those who cannot create aught and are created? 191 And cannot provide any help to them, nor do they help themselves? 192 If ye call them to guidance, they will not obey: For you it is the same whether ye call them or ye hold your peace! 193 Those whom you invoke other than Allah are creatures like you. So invoke them. and see if they answer your call, if what you claim is true. 194 Have they feet to walk with? Have they hands to punish with? Have they eyes to see with? Have they ears to hear with? Say: 'Call on your partners and then try to scheme against me. Give me no respite. 195 "For my Protector is Allah, Who revealed the Book (from time to time), and He will choose and befriend the righteous. 196 whereas all those whom you invoke in His stead are neither able to give you succour nor can succour themselves; 197 And if ye (Muslims) call them to the guidance they hear not; and thou (Muhammad) seest them looking toward thee, but they see not. 198 Use thou indulgence and enjoin seemliness and turn away from the ignorant. 199 If a suggestion from Satan assail thy (mind), seek refuge with Allah; for He heareth and knoweth (all things). 200 Verily those who fear God when an instigation from the Satan toucheth them, they call to mind, and lo! they are enlightened. 201 while their brethren ceaselessly try to drag them into error. 202 And when you, [O Muhammad], do not bring them a sign, they say, "Why have you not contrived it?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This [Qur'an] is enlightenment from your Lord and guidance and mercy for a people who believe." 203 When the Koran is recited, listen to it in silence in order that Allah has mercy upon you. 204 And remember your Lord within yourself humbly and fearing and in a voice not loud in the morning and the evening and be not of the heedless ones. 205 Verily those who are with thy Lord are not stiff-necked against His worship, and they hallow, and unto Him they prostrate themselves. ۩ 206
