Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, “Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening.” 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or to his parents). 14 So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
