He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
