Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions ranged! 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
