The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
