He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
