The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
