The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
