The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 But then We never send the angels down save with the purpose (of enforcing their doom), after which they will not be given more respite. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
