The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 [for] no human being has ever been left unguarded. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) 8 On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants), 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 They (disbelievers) plot every evil plan, 15 And I am planning a scheme. 16 So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile. 17
Almighty God's Truth.
