Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
