He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
