The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
