۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
