The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
