The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your robes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
