We initiated your creation, then We gave you each a shape, and then We said to the angels: 'Prostrate before Adam.' They all prostrated except Iblis: he was not one of those who fell prostrate. 11 Said He, 'What prevented thee to bow thyself, when I commanded thee?' Said he, 'I am better than he; Thou createdst me of fire, and him Thou createdst of clay.' 12 [Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise, for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased. 13 He said: "Give me respite till the day they are raised up." 14 Allah said: verily thou art of the respited. 15 He said: "Because thou hast thrown me out of the way, lo! I will lie in wait for them on thy straight way: 16 then I will surely come upon them from before them and from behind them and from their right and from their left, and then You will find most of them ungrateful." 17 He said: Go forth from hence, degraded, banished. As for such of them as follow thee, surely I will fill hell with all of you. 18 'O Adam dwell with your wife in Paradise, and eat from whatever you please; but never approach this tree or you shall both become harmdoers' 19 But Satan suggested (evil) to them, in order to reveal their hidden parts of which they were not aware (till then), and said: "Your Lord has forbidden you (to go near) this tree that you may not become angels or immortal." 20 And he swore to them, “Indeed I am a well-wisher for both of you.” 21 Thus Satan brought about their fall by deceit. And when they tasted of the tree, their shame became vislible to them, and both began to cover themselves with leaves from the Garden. Then their Lord called out to them: 'Did I not forbid you from that tree, and did I not warn you that Satan 'is your declared enemy?' 22 They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers." 23 (Allah) said: "Get ye down. With enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood,- for a time." 24 He said: 'There you shall live and there you shall die, and from there you shall emerge' 25
