Nay, by the Moon 32 By the receding night 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 who will be in Paradise 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
