He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
