The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour hath drawn nigh, and the moon hath been rent in sunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
