The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 abasing, exalting, 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 facing one another. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right hand; 38
