The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
