Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
