The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
