The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
