Hath there come unto thee the story of Ibrahim's honoured guests? 24 When they came to him, they said: "Peace." He answered: "Peace." They were a people he did not recognise. 25 Then he turned away privately unto his household, and brought a calf fatted. 26 And placing it before them said: "Won't you eat?" 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! and gave him tidings of (the birth of) a wise son. 28 Then his wife came forward with a loud voice, she smote her face, and said: "A barren old woman!" 29 They said: Thus says your Lord: Surely He is the Wise, the Knowing. 30 ۞ Abraham asked, "Messengers, what is your task?" 31 They said, "We have been sent to a people (deep) in sin;- 32 To send down upon them stones of baked clay. 33 Marked by thy Lord for (the destruction of) the wanton. 34 Then We brought forth such as were therein of the believers. 35 We therefore found just one house over there that was Muslim. 36 And We left behind therein a portent for those who fear a painful doom. 37 And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 But he turned his back, he and his courtiers, and said, "This is a sorcerer or a madman." 39 So We seized him and his hosts, and cast them into the sea. He became an object of much blame. 40 And in 'A-ad also was a lesson, when We sent against them the barren wind. 41 Which turned everything it touched to ashes. 42 And in Thamud's also was a lesson, when it was said unto them: enjoy yourselves for a season. 43 But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on. 44 Then they were unable to rise up, nor could they help themselves. 45 [We destroyed] the people of Noah before them. They were certainly a sinful people. 46
