Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
