He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
