The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 souls are reunited with their bodies, 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped, 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 (Then) every person will know what he has brought (of good and evil). 14 So, I call the receding stars to witness, 15 The stars which rise and set, 16 And the close of night, 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 Verily it is a Word brought by a messenger honoured, 19 who is honored in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 he is not niggardly of the Unseen. 24 And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
