Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
