The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the finest, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
