Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya. 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 one that might be my heir and the heir of the house of Jacob; and make him, Lord, one that will be pleasing to You. 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 He (Zachariah) said: 'Lord, make for me a sign' He replied: 'Your sign is that you shall not speak to people for three nights being without fault' 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
