Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 For they said: "A man! Alone from among us, that we are to follow? Truly, then we should be in error and distress or madness!" 24 Has the [Divine] message been revealed to him alone of all of us? No, he is a boastful liar." 25 Tomorrow they will come to know, who is the liar, the insolent one! 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warnings. 30 Then We sent against them one Shout and they became like the trampled twigs of the (sheep) penbuilder. 31 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition: is there then any one who would be admonished. 32 LOT'S PEOPLE [too] gave the lie to all [Our] warnings: 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 Thus do We recompense the grateful ones. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 And they tried to persuade him regarding his guests – We therefore blinded their eyes, “So taste My punishment, and My warnings.” 37 Indeed an abiding chastisement came upon them in the morning. 38 “So taste My punishment, and My warnings!” 39 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 40
