And remember Our bondman Ayyub (Job); when he cried out* to his Lord, “The devil has struck me with hardship and pain.” (After seven years of patience.) 41 (We commanded him): “Stamp your foot on earth, and here is cool water to wash with and to drink.” 42 And We granted him his family and a like [number] with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding. 43 [And finally We told him:] "Now take in thy hand a small bunch of grass, and strike therewith, and thou wilt not break thine oath!" for, verily, We found him full of patience in adversity: how excellent a servant [of Ours,] who, behold, would always turn unto Us! 44 And remember thou Our bondmen, Ibrahim and Is-haq and Ya'qub, owners of might and insight. 45 Verily We! We distinguished them with a distinct quality: the remembrance of the Abode. 46 Indeed with Us they are among the chosen, the excellent. 47 And commemorate Isma'il, Elisha, and Zul-Kifl: Each of them was of the Company of the Good. 48 This was a remembrance. An excellent retreat awaits the God-fearing 49 The gardens of perpetuity, the doors are opened for them. 50 They will be comfortably seated; reclining, they will call for abundant fruit and drink; 51 ۞ And with them shall be those restraining their eyes, equals in age. 52 Such is the Promise made, to you for the Day of Account! 53 this is Our unending provision' 54 This (for the virtuous); but for the transgressors the evil destination, 55 Gehenna, wherein they are roasted - an evil cradling! 56 There will be boiling water for them and cold, clammy, fetid drink to taste, 57 and other such torments. 58 This is a troop entering with you (in Hell), no welcome for them! Verily, they shall burn in the Fire! 59 They shall say: Nay! you-- no welcome to you: you did proffer it to us, so evil is the resting-place. 60 They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us - increase for him double punishment in the Fire." 61 And they will say: 'Why do we not see the men that we counted as being among the wicked in here? 62 Have we taken them in mockery? Or, have our eyes swerved from them?' 63 This contending of the inmates of Hell will surely be real. 64
